Remedies for really really bad heartburn?

Question by livay: Remedies for really really bad heartburn?
Okay so at the beginning of April i had really bad pain/burning in the center of my chest that lasted for days. I went to the doctor and she said it seems like acid reflux (because i get heartburn frequently and i have other symptoms). She put me on protonix, which basically stops the production of adic in your stomach. Its been working great… until yesterday. I woke up in the middle of the night with really bad heartburn that runs from the top left side of my chest (basically up to my shoulder) all the way down to my rib cage. I took antacids, i’ve taken 2 of my protonix today, i took extra strength perscription antacids my mom gave me and NOTHING is working!!!
somebody please help! its quite painful and it hurts to breathe!!!!!

Drink a lot of water and stay upright. Do not go to sleep for at least 4 hours after your last meal. If your still in pain at that time, then (if possible) put 4 inch blocks under the front of your bed. If not possible, then use multiple pillows to prop yourself up.

heartburn no more

More food is the last thing you want to do. Your stomach needs to empty the contents. The burning sensation is an indication that your esphogas got stomach acid on it.

  1. Fix It Yourself says:

Low stomach acid or as the doctors like to call it, hypochlorhydria, can also cause you heartburn. Most remedies out there for acid reflux are used to treat an overabundance of stomach acid. Unfortunately if you suffer from low stomach acid production, this is the last thing that you will want to do.

When you suffer from low stomach acid, your lower esophageal sphincter – LES (the valve that connects your esophagus to your stomach) may not close properly. Normally, a sufficient level of stomach acid in your gut tells your LES to close completely. An insufficient level of stomach acid may lead to a leaky LES which means that you are more likely to suffer from acid reflux.
