Can Tums cause kidney stones?

Question by Amanda: Can Tums cause kidney stones?
Can taking Tums every day for heartburn during pregnancy cause kidney stones? I have heard that the calcium content can cause them. I already had one and it was horrible. However my heartburn is so bad that I have to take like 7-10 a day.

Kidney stones are caused by excess calcium deposits. So theoretically you can get kidney stones by taking tums. But practically most of it is removed by the kidney. One should drink enough water, about 2ltrs a day, to flush out the toxins from the kidney. It also helps in flushing out the excess calcium which otherwise forms deposits.

heartburn no more
