Question by malibuE: Can i take rennie tablets whilst on a course of amoxicillin?
I have read that you are not supposed to take antacids when you are taking antibiotics. I have severe tonsilitis so am on amoxicillin but i also have extremely bad heartburn. My mum bought me some rennie tablets so i was wondering if it would stop the amoxicillin working if i took them as well? Or if not, is there anything i can use to treat my heartburn that won’t affect the antibiotics?

The best person to call for this would be your pharmacist (called the chemist in the UK). As I recall some antibiotics (e.g. Cipro and doxycycline) should not be taken with antacids but other antibiotics are just fine with them. I don’t remember whether amoxicillin was OK or not… but your pharmacist/chemist will!
