About

Heartburn, also called as pyrosis or even acid indigestion is a burning discomfort in the chest, simply right behind the breastbone or in the epigastrium. The pain usually goes up in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or even angle of the jaw.

Heartburn is normally related to regurgitation of gastric acid (gastric reflux) which is the main symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It however can also be an indicator of ischemic heart problems so concluding that it is gastroesophageal reflux disease prematurely may result in misdiagnosis.
